The big reveal, which took place yesterday (8 March), and tying in with International Women's Day, was devised in partnership with agency HSE Cake. The moment highlighted the role of Bristol, Derby, Taunton, Leicester and London in hosting the most prestigious tournament in women’s cricket as the ICC revealed the full match schedule for the first time.
Each unveiling ceremony in the five locations was differed slightly. In Taunton the clock is positioned outside of the visitor's centre and was unveiled by England Women’s Internationals Fran Wilson and Beth Langston. The mayor of Taunton, Somerset County Cricket Club CEO Guy Lavender and pupils from North Town Primary School were also in attendance. Following the unveiling of the clock, Wilston and Langston oversaw a fun coaching session for the children from North Town Primary School at the County Ground.
The tournament will get underway on 24 June as 28 matches will be held over 21 days, including four weekends, meaning more opportunities for fans to attend.
David Richardson, ICC chief executive, said: ‘I can’t think of a better moment than International Women’s Day to unveil the schedule of one of the leading global events in women’s sport. We’ve already sold 9000 tickets for the final at Lord’s which bodes well for the rest of the event going on sale today. I know we can always count on the British sport loving public to support big events."
Lizzy Pollott, creative director at HSE Cake added: "The ICC wanted to use International Women’s Day to launch the Women’s World Cup schedule both nationwide and regionally. We worked with them to deliver countdown clocks, which are a great way for local communities to get behind the forthcoming games between now and the start of the tournament."
UK-wide activity continues, with next Wednesday (13 March) marking the launch of a new radio campaign to promote the forthcoming tournament across the airways.
Last November, event raising £180,000 for the homeless charity. , as part of its official partnership with England Cricket Board.
