The 1,000-capacity space was previously the main hall of the building located in Euston, London. The board decided to go ahead with a £4.5m renovation of the venue to create a more versatile and sustainable space for large events in central London.

The original wooden panelling and large windows of The Light have been kept, while new features include a roof light, vaulted roof, five-metre-wide projection screen and LED lighting to reflect a more contemporary design.

All catering will be sourced from local suppliers to highlight the Quakers’ ethos of fairness and sustainability.

Paul Grey, head of hospitality at Friends House, said: "It was a terrific day for everyone associated with the venue. The Light is not only a fantastic contemporary events space, it is also an important place of history at the heart of the Quakers’ centrally-managed operations in Britain. As such, respect for heritage and the environment are of paramount importance to us."

Grey told Event at the venue’s  that he hoped The Light would become the venue of choice for the third sector in the UK.
