Two of the film's stars – Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey, and John Boyega, who plays Finn, were present at the event, enabling fans to get up and close with the new characters.
Attendees were granted access to the new product range, which encompasses lightsabers, construction sets, figures and collectibles, as well as clothing, home decor, lifestyle accessories and books.
Items featuring characters and storylines yet to be seen in the film, such as Rey, Finn, Kylo Ren, Captain Phasma and BB-8, will be unveiled closer to the release date.
To celebrate the global launch of the paraphernalia, Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media hosted a live event where key Star Wars: The Force Awakens products were unveiled at different locations across the world.
The events, which were hosted on the Star Wars YouTube page, kicked off in Sydney and concluded at the Lucasfilm headquarters in San Francisco.
Mike Stagg, general manager of retail for Disney UK and Ireland said: "We’ve been working closely with the filmmakers to bring the characters and storylines from Star Wars: The Force Awakens to life through an exciting array of products, and we’re thrilled to finally be able to share them with fans around the world."
