Hosted by Facebook at the company's new London offices, the event saw 300 industry guests attend for the launch of the strategy, called Create UK, which outlines a plan that will see businesses and the government work together to maintain the UK’s position as a world leader for the creative industries.

The British Fashion Council, the Design Council, Warner Bros, the BBC and the UK's music, film and TV industries were all in attendance showcasing their work at a best of British exhibition.

Among the event’s highlights were models dressed in designs from upcoming British fashion designers, Sandra Bullock’s space suit from Academy Award-winning movie Gravity was displayed by Warner Brothers and guests had the opportunity to try the latest in virtual reality gaming with Oculus Rift headsets. Co-chairs of the CIC Vince Cable, secretary of state for business, innovation and skills, and Nicola Mendelsohn, vice president EMEA for Facebook, introduced the Create UK strategy before guests were treated to a special performance from upcoming British acoustic artist Kimberley Anne.

Handbag designer Anya Hindmarch, TV presenter Professor Brian Cox and film director Guy Ritchie were some of the names that turned out to hear the plans.
