The event, which was dubbed Brazil Day and produced by Eclat Events & Productions, was organised by Brazil’s Ministry of Sport, Brazil’s Ministry of Culture and the Embassy of Brazil in London, and supported by the Mayor of London. Around 25,000 Brazillian ex-pats, Londoners and tourists attended the event.
Capital FM’s Kat Shoob hosted the event and BBC Radio 6 Music’s Giles Peterson performed a DJ set inspired by Brazillian beats. The party ended at 7pm, two hours before the first match between Brazil and Croatia kicked off.
Food venders provided Brazillian-themed street food and snacks at the event, which also featured table football, dance lessons, an inflatable football pitch and a carnival-style samba performance.
Roberto Jaguaribe, the ambassador of Brazil in the UK, said yesterday: "This month is an exciting time for us and something we’ve been preparing for since Brazil was announced as the 2014 World Cup host country.
"Today we wanted to bring a slice of Brazil to the UK, and showcase our passion for football and Brazilian culture to the fans who weren’t able to make it to Brazil for the tournament."
