The Floating House was launched this morning (18 May) and will meander down the river until 23 May. The home has two bedrooms, a living room, a working bathroom and a garden complete with real grass, a doghouse and an apple tree.
The installation, which took four months to build, will hold community events throughout the week. One competition winner will be given the chance to stay overnight with three guests on 22 May.
The visitors will be able to enjoy spa treatments from on-demand app Priv and a private dining experience from chef Robert Ortiz. The stunt was created to celebrate new rules that mean home-sharers can earn an income equivalent to a 15% payrise by hosting their property on Airbnb for seven days a month.
James McClure, UK country manager at Airbnb said: "The Floating House is the ultimate celebration of home sharing and an unforgettable travel experience to bring to the UK. London is already Airbnb’s third largest city globally and one of the world’s top tourist destinations.
"With these new, clear rules on home sharing we expect more and more Londoners to open their homes to visitors from across the globe."
