The Museum of London chose an 18th century pleasure garden theme for its annual Valentine's Day party last night (14 February).

The ball was organised by the museum's in-house events team and inspired by decadent Georgian pleasure gardens where visitors talked, danced and indulged in cultural performances.

Guests were invited to create their own masquerade mask and learn Georgian dance moves with a performance from girl band Lady Georgianna. Hilary Davidson, fashion curator at the museum, gave a talk on the 18th century dandy wardrobe.

Gay poets such as John Mccullough and Peter Daniels performed as party of the Write Queer London Festival and actors mingled with attendees to perform excerpts from musical The Mask of Joy, which will soon go on show at the new Vauxhall Pleasure Garden.
