Organised by entertainment agency Excess All Areas, founded by Paul Martin, the event aimed to celebrate the city’s growing cabaret scene.

Jamie Anderson compared the event, and entertainment was provided by Mr B the Gentleman Rhymer, Josephine Shaker and girl group Four Femmes on the Thames.

Martin decided to organise the awards after 20 years as an international performer, programmer and producer in the cabaret world.

He said: "I am delighted at the response to our first ever London Cabaret Awards and thanks all those involved for their hard work and dedication. I start work tomorrow on organising next years' event, which promises to be even bigger and better."

The judging panel included Ben Walters, cabaret editor at Time Out, and Lisa Lee, performer and programmer at Bistrotheque, the hub of east London's drag and alternative performance renaissance.
