Actors such as Ian McKellen, Colin Firth and Damian Lewis gathered at the hotel for the annual awards organised by agency Act IV, which celebrate London’s theatre scene.
The night began with a drinks reception hosted by American Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, before dinner at tables decorated with foliage and white flowers from Rob Van Helden.
The awards ceremony, organised in association with Burberry, was hosted by James Corden, who opened with a song about the joy of winning awards.
Danny Boyle and his team were recognised for with the Beyond Theatre award, a special accolade for those who push theatre beyond its conventional boundaries.
National Theatre director Nicholas Hytner won two awards, and Judi Dench was honoured for her lifelong contribution to world theatre with the Moscow Art Theatre’s Golden Seagull award.
