Picture gallery: 1950s seaside party at The Deck

The National Theatre's rooftop venue The Deck held a party inspired by a 1950s pier last night (31 May) to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, and Event has pictures from the evening.

Guests were treated to an oyster bar, fish and chips and sausage and mash followed by toffee apples, candy floss, doughnuts and ice cream tubs.

The Deck transformed into a traditional seaside pleasure pier, complete with seagulls, bunting, fairground sound effects, a fortune teller and authentic 1950s arcade games from Rye Heritage Centre.

Visitors could also upload photos to The Deck’s Facebook page for a chance to win a two-night stay at a boutique hotel in Brighton.

Kat Parker, head of sales and hospitality events at The Deck, said: "’A Pier on The Deck’ was a great way for us to show our exclusive event space in a new light, and a new era. In a year of nostalgia and celebration of all things British we had great fun transforming The Deck into a quintessential seaside pier."
