Phones4U shifts strategy to £8m price-led activity

Phones4U is dropping its 'Ashamed of Your Mobile' strapline and moving to a price-led campaign as part of an £8m marketing campaign designed to take the fight to rival Carphone Warehouse.

The ads, based around the theme of 'Phones4Less', will break at the start of November and replace its current campaign, which features voiceovers by comedian Paul Merton. The mobile chain is not planning to use Merton again.

The 'Phones4Less' slogan has been promoted in-store since the summer but this is the first time the chain has taken it above the line.

The campaign, created by Cheetham Bell JWT, encompassses TV, print and online and will feature comic duo Flight of the Conchords, who were Perrier Prize nominees at this summer's Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
