Pharmaceutical industry gets online data source

A healthcare website has been launched that promises to provide the pharmaceutical industry with a new source of data.

According to research from IPT, 44 per cent of the UK population is taking prescription drugs at any one time. It has launched the site Medictra.com to complete the loop between patient, doctor and pharmaceutical company.

Free to sign up to, the site provides members with access to medical information, condition-specific newsletters and a drug side effects comparison tool.

Members can also participate in patient surveys, and give and receive feedback on the drugs they take.

The results will be available to the survey participants and to the pharmaceutical industry, providing them with valuable feedback from consumers on the performance of their drugs.

The site's database is already 50,000 members strong with IPT expecting it to reach one million within 12 months.

It also currently contains information on the 70 most prevalent medical conditions, 3,375 drugs, 2,682 corresponding side effects, and more than 26,000 surgeries and hospitals.
