A report in today's Times said 'Peppa Pig''s owner, Entertainment One, is close to striking a TV deal with Nikelodeon to televise the show in the US where it will be a flagship show in its TV schedule.
Nikelodeon is the US's most watched children's channel and the deal could see 'Peppa Pig' on American screens as early as Christmas this year.
The series follows the life of 'Peppa Pig', her family and friends and has proved a hit in the UK and abroad.
An airing in the US would transform the TV series, which is already shown in 180 countries, and cement its position as a global brand.
The series is produced and co-owned by Astley Baker Davies and has spun-off into licensed brand products, including video games and 'Peppa Pig' inspired toys and home items such as bed linen and bathroom products.
In April this year, , according to Entertainment One.
In the same month, 'Peppa Pig' was due to make a public appearance at a children's centre as part of the Labour family manifesto launch and to promote the government-funded Sure Start children's centres.
However 'Peppa Pig''s presence was withdrawn at the last minute after talks, which were said to involve the UK broadcaster of the series Channel Five, the BBC, and Entertainment One.
The BBC reported that E1 Entertainment said: "'Peppa Pig' is a well known fan of Sure Start children's centres but, in the interests of avoiding any controversy or misunderstanding, we have agreed she should not attend."
'Peppa Pig' won a children's Bafta in 2005 for best pre-school animation.
Entertainment One was unavailable for comment.
