Ettinghausen was previously audio and e-book publisher, a role he held for three years.
In his new job, he will incorporate his previous responsibilities, at the same time looking at new digital formats to which Penguin can extend its content.
He is joined by Anna Rafferty, who is promoted to the role of digital marketing director.
Before that, she was head of for almost three years, during which time sales and traffic trebled and the user database rose by 400%.
Penguin sells a number of its titles as e-books, which can be downloaded in formats for PCs, PDAs or in PDF format. The website also hosts a podcast, which features information about new Penguin books.
