David Payne and Mike Cavers, Tequila Payne Stracey’s joint chairman
and chief executive and creative director respectively, are to leave the
agency at the end of the year amid an overhaul of the agency’s
management.
Payne will continue to act as a consultant to the TBWA group after his
departure, but will spend the majority of his time concentrating on his
chairmanship of the Institute of Direct Marketing. Cavers has been
appointed by TBWA/H in Amsterdam, the joint venture between TBWA and
Hakuhodo, as the European creative director, integration, on Nissan.
The pair’s imminent departure leaves no gaps in Tequila as both have
been working jointly with partners. Tom Wass, the agency’s joint
chairman and chief executive, will continue to oversee the Tequila
network and its expansion and Sean Kinmount, the joint creative
director, will now have responsibility for the creative department.
Meanwhile, Ben Stephens, Tequila’s managing director, and Jane Asscher,
chief operating officer, will both move up to become joint chief
executives.
Taking their places are Adam Wylie, formerly the joint client services
director, and his counterpart, Sharon Heffernan. Joining the two in the
day-to-day UK management is Tim Bonnet, who becomes managing partner
from his current board director role.
Payne said: ’The IDM role is a significant one, so it seemed right to
step back from day-to-day operations. Hopefully, I will not be leaving a
gap on my departure, as the company has evolved since the merger.’
