The Turner Contemporary art gallery is set to be built in Margate. The Arts Council and Kent County Council Project will be finished in 2011.
Gray told Event that he envisages musical and art night events at the gallery. He is also hoping to get support from artist Tracey Emin, who has family ties to Margate.
"I am looking forward to widening my experience beyond events. It's not every day you get to manage a £17m project. Aside from the obvious career opportunities that this new job offers, it's also a conscious lifestyle choice, as it enables a move to the countryside for my family (including two year old son, who is climbing the walls of our current two bed flat," said Gray.
Nickola Savage, events development manager at Kew, is set to step into Gray's shoes.
