All Party summit launches assault on net spammers

The first UK summit on spam email took place this month, marking the launch of an inquiry into spam by the All Party Parliamentary Internet Group (APIG).

Up for debate was the electronic communications directive, along with other potential solutions.

Stephen Timms, minister for e-commerce, said: "Spam won't ever disappear, but a combination of sensible regulation, industry action and user awareness can make a big difference."

APIG also launched www.endspam.org.uk, a resource for consumers to complain to their MP or ISP about spam, and find tips on avoiding it.
