Toy manufacturers are targeting parents through the press, with The Guardian launching a "Top Toys" list to pique the curiousity of early Christmas shoppers.

The new edition of Monopoly, which plays music, is predicted to be a big seller in the run-up to Christmas, according to The Guardian’s list of likely hit toys.

Sainsbury’s pictures the game in ads today alongside other predicted favourites, promising all toys at half price. The supermarket is also offering the same deal on fireworks.

Toys R Us takes out a full page to highlight deals on toys for young children. The ad pictures a princess kitchen and dolls house among other toys.

Selfridges & Co takes out a full-page ad in The Times to declare "we are beauty" alongside a star shaped bottle of Angel perfume and Goldsmiths pictures its Signature collection of diamond rings in The Daily Telegraph.

Morrisons offers £30 off the Christmas shopping bill after Asda launched a similar deal through a press campaign this week.

Asda’s clothes brand George reflects the current M&S campaign highlighting party dresses, with its own campaign picturing its collection for £20. Tesco meanwhile promotes £5 off winter coats.

Microwaveable snack brand Feasters takes out a full page in The Daily Mirror, suggesting to mums that they stock up on microwavable burgers as a snack for after school.
