Hello! takes out an ad in The Guardian to promote the special royal engagement edition it launched on Friday.

Tesco takes out a double page spread in The Sun highlighting its deals while other ads for the supermarket push celebrations with half-price champagne.

Parker takes out an ad in The Guardian for its pen range, prompting readers to "write your own story".

The Sun ties up with Debenhams to offer savings of £20 with vouchers to collect inside the paper.

McDonalds advertises its "festive menu" with a full page in The Sun, while Sony advertises its new PS3 launch, Gran Turismo 5.

Orange promises better sound quality with handsets from Nokia and Sony Ericsson.

Special mention goes to Halifax for trying a new ad format developed by media agency MEC. Yesterday the finance brand inserted an unusual ad in The Guardian, replacing pages seven and eight with a half page, cut out to give more emphasis to the brands message about its reward current account.
