Panorama back to primetime in BBC One autumn line-up

LONDON - The BBC's autumn schedule will feature a primetime slot return for 'Panorama', the return of 'The Royle Family', 'What Not to Wear', 'Strictly Come Dancing' and 'Planet Earth'.

Peter Fincham, BBC One controller, said the channel's autumn schedule would combine new and established names, with a one-off special of 'The Royle Family', the return of Sir David Attenborough's 'Planet Earth', 'The Armstrong and Miller Show' and 'Ancient Rome: The Rise and Fall of an Empire'.

The corporation also said it would be moving 'Panorama' to 8.30pm on Mondays as part of the high-profile changes.

The BBC also unveil new dramas including: 'Robin Hood', featuring Keith Allen as the sheriff of Nottingham; a new production of Charlotte Bronte's 'Jane Eyre' starring newcomer Ruth Wilson; a fictional politics series called 'The Amazing Mrs Pritchard'; and a one-off film about social inequality by Dominic Savage with the working title 'London' and featuring Robert Carlyle, Colin Firth and Anne-Marie Duff.

However, despite the new additions to the BBC's schedules, a host of household names will return, including Jonathan Ross, Graham Norton, and television veteran Bruce Forsyth.

Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders will also appear in village-based sitcom 'Jam and Jerusalem', co-starring Joanna Lumley and 'Father Ted''s Pauline McLynn.

The corporation also plans a one-off special of 'The Royle Family', which will reunite the original cast of Ricky Tomlinson, Caroline Aherne, Ralf Little and Liz Smith, slated to appear at the end of the year.

Other new commissions include Professor Robert Winston's fertility series 'A Child Against All Odds', comedian Griff Rhys Jones' arts documentary on the life of Rudyard Kipling, and a conspiracy thriller called 'The State Within,' featuring Jason Isaacs.

A new series of 'What Not to Wear' will feature new presenters Mica Paris and Lisa Butcher, replacing Trinny and Susannah who have switched to ITV.

Fincham said: "Quality is delivered across the schedule with ground-breaking drama, innovative specialist factual series and the sharpest new comedy.

"But above all, this is a BBC One bursting with top talent. Some old, some new, some familiar, some almost unknown."
