P&O owner shortlists four for £12m UK account

LONDON - Carnival Group Cruises has shortlisted four media agencies to handle its £12m UK media planning and buying business for its multibrand account of P&O Cruises, Princess Cruises, Ocean Village and Cunard.

After a series of chemistry meetings, incumbent Starcom has been invited to defend the account against Omnicom’s Rocket and Aegis Group’s Vizeum and Carat, in a review being handled by FLE (Fairbrother Lenz Eley).

The first round of pitches will take place on 8 and 9 October, with a decision expected within the month.

The process is being led by Philip Price, head of brand marketing at P&O Cruises and forms part of a wider review of all Carnival suppliers, with the AAR conducting a creative review which includes incumbent Miles Calcraft Briginshaw Duffy.

According to Nielsen, the multibrand account, which includes cruises to more than 90 destinations, spent more than £10.4m on above the line advertising last year, and a further £1.1m on direct mail activity. Traditional adspend, coupled with digital activity, is expected to increase to £12m in 2009.
