Coombe, who was P&G's general manager for customer business development, UK and Ireland, is expected to oversee Gillette's marketing once its $57bn (拢30.9bn) takeover is completed next month.
Coombe replaces Gino De Jaegher, who becomes marketing director for baby, family and femcare. He in turn replaces Jenny Ashmore, who was recently promoted to global franchise leader for Pampers.
The moves come as P&G finalises the Gillette acquisition. The company received the go-ahead from the EU competition authorities in July and is awaiting US clearance for the deal.
Coombe will continue to report to Gianni Ciserani, vice-president and general manager for UK and Ireland, and will be based at its UK headquarters in Brooklands, Surrey.
Prior to his role as general manager for customer business development, Coombe was marketing director for Procter & Gamble's fabric care business in Western Europe. He was responsible for detergent brands including Ariel, Bold, Daz and Fairy.
