Orion Media appoints Simple chief Geoff Percy as chairman

Orion Media, the company formed by Phil Riley to buy a number of Midlands' radio stations from Global Radio, has appointed Simple Health & Beauty chief executive, Geoff Percy, as its first chairman to drive ambitious growth plans.

Orion Media is backed by private equity firm Lloyds Development Capital (LDC) and owns eight radio licences, including BRMB in Birmingham and Mercia FM in Coventry, which it bought from Global Radio in 2009.

In his new role, Percy will strengthen Orion Media's team of directors and provide brand-building insights from his previous private equity management experience.

Percy has been chief executive of Solihull-based Simple Health & Beauty for 10 years and remains in post following its sale to American beauty giant Alberto Culver in December 2009.

He was also managing director of consumer products at Smith & Nephew before he led a management buyout to create Accantia, now Simple Health & Beauty Group, in 2000.

He recently completed a two-year term as chairman of the business federation CBI in the West Midlands. He called Orion Media a "very exciting opportunities for future growth".
