Orange ties with cinema industry for free tickets

Orange is on the verge of a groundbreaking sponsorship deal with the UK cinema industry to create 'Orange Wednesdays', a long-term initiative to offer free film tickets to the mobile network's customer base.

The firm has held talks with major cinema operators including Odeon, UGC and UCI, about an agreement to give Orange customers free and discounted tickets to their venues on Wednesdays - traditionally a quiet day for the cinema industry.

The deal, which has yet to be finalised, would be backed by an ad campaign created by Mother, and could include special preview screenings for Orange customers.

Orange has a long-running association with film and the arts through its sponsorship of the British Academy Film Awards. It offers a range of services for film buffs, including cinema listings through mobile phones.

"Orange is constantly reviewing its sponsorship portfolio and developing innovative services that reflect customers' interests," said an Orange spokesman.
