Orange continues to be the most successful brand in the UK mobile
telecoms market, it emerged yesterday.
The France Telecom-owned operator said it had added 2.6 million
customers last year, making it the market leader with a customer base of
12.4 million people.
Orange also announced a 29% boost in its worldwide customer base to 39.3
million.
At the same time, the UK's smallest mobile brand, Virgin Mobile,
announced that it had almost doubled its user base in 2001 to 1.4
million.
Meanwhile, BT, which recently rebranded and floated off its mobile
business mmO2, denied speculation that it was planning to sell off its
fixed-line network.
