Anne Wilson, the Zenith associate director, has joined Optimedia to
run the European Hewlett-Packard personal computer business - the
agency’s second biggest account.
Wilson, who joins as international media director, was also working on
the Hewlett-Packard account at Zenith - on its printer business.
She was recruited to replace Mark Jones, who left Optimedia in June to
become worldwide media director for Hewlett-Packard at Publicis Hal
Rainey in San Francisco, the computer giant’s global agency.
Part of Wilson’s job will be to liaise with Jones over Hewlett-Packard’s
global media strategy.
Wilson, who started last week, is one of two international media
directors at Optimedia, along with Jon Chase.
Both report to the agency’s director of international client services
Philip Talbot.
The appointment is likely to be a shot in the arm for Optimedia at a
time when Hewlett-Packard is undergoing a radical restructure that will
change its focus from the product to the customer.
’I thought it would be a real challenge,’ said Wilson, who will oversee
a team of eight planners and buyers. ’Especially in the light of
Hewlett-Packard’s changes. We’re going to look at all aspects of its
media.’
Wilson’s experience with technology clients is likely to be called upon
in the pursuit of hi-tech new business.
Wilson entered the media world soon after leaving college in the mid-80s
and worked on the Visa International account at Nixon Wood, before
joining Saatchi & Saatchi in 1988.
In addition to Hewlett-Packard, her clients at Zenith included
Electronic Data Systems and Compaq.
Her replacement at Zenith, following an internal reorganisation at the
agency, is Tim Scott Hunter, group head on Hewlett-Packard.
