The IPA's TouchPoints survey canvassed a cross-section of people on whether they thought the London Olympics in 2012 would be good for Britain.

Opinion is split over the value of 2012 Olympic Games for Britain

Of those, 19.2% of respondents were Londoners and only 55% agreed or tended to agree with the statement, an index of just 94.5. This compares to 60% of people from the rest of the country, making a much stronger index of 101.4.

Respondents in the social grade C2DE did not have particularly high expectations, with only 57% agreeing with the statement compared to 62% of ABC1 respondents.

People aged 55 and over were the least keen, with just 53% of people agreeing with the statement.
