The festival, organised by the LLDC, the Barbican and Create London, marks the first anniversary of the London 2012 Olympic Games opening ceremony.

Boris Johnson, Mayor of London and chairman of the LLDC, said: "The sizzling line-up of music, performance and food makes the Open East Festival a fabulous curtain-raiser to another exciting summer in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

"Whether you live locally, or are coming from further afield, the cultural and sporting events planned for the park show why it is set to become a must see destination."

The park itself will be one of the stars of the show, with events and moving music performances scheduled to encourage audiences to discover the riverbanks and parklands. The festival will culminate each day with a spectacular finale, details of which are being kept under wraps by organisers.

Visitors will be able to sample 70 food stalls; join in a communal feast on the bridge over the River Lea; and sample beers from local breweries from within a ten-mile radius of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park at the Ten Mile Beer Festival.

A number of Games-related performances will hark back to last summer, including shows from the Pandemonium Drummers and BMX riders, who showcased their talents during the opening ceremony.

Local talent will feature with east London artists and organisations taking part in the day’s activities, including Theatre Royal Stratford East, Barbican Drum Works, LSO Discovery and local bands from Continental Drifts.

Art lovers will also get the chance to unearth a future masterpiece at the Art Car Boot Fair and discover hidden treasures at the Urban Bazaar, an art and design community showcasing the best in UK-made, sustainable, up-cycled, vintage and contemporary design.

Child-friendly attractions will include The House of Fairy Tales; the Discover Children’s Story Centre; and Charlie Dark on a hip-hop, poetry puppet adventure.

Louise Jeffreys, director of programming at the Barbican, said: "After playing a leading role in the hugely successful cultural celebrations surrounding the 2012 Olympics, the Barbican is thrilled to be continuing the Olympic legacy by being one of the producers of Open East Festival.

"Open East Festival is the Barbican’s largest offsite project to date and we can’t wait to welcome people from all over London to the city’s newest park."

Hadrian Garrard, director at Create London, said: "The Open East Festival builds on the creative legacy of London 2012. It's an unusual mix of being both affordable and completely brilliant - one of the best family days out in London this summer in a new part of the city with world-class food, art, theatre, dance and music."

Dennis Hone, chief executive, of LLDC, added: "Open East Festival is one of a fantastic series of events this summer and marks the start of the first phase of opening for Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park."

Festival tickets are priced at £6.00 for children and £9.50 for adults. Priority tickets for residents of east London host boroughs will be released on Friday 31 May, and go on general sale on Monday 3 June.
