Olympus builds sites for digital cameras

Camera brand Olympus is to launch three microsites to drive sales of its digital cameras in the run-up to Christmas.

It has appointed new-media marketing company Digital Outlook to build the sites for the C50 Zoom, C5050 Zoom and C730 UZ cameras.

Due to go live next month, the sites will offer product information and an interactive 360-degree demonstration highlighting the cameras' main features.

The sites will be accessible via a dedicated link (www.olympus.co.uk/be-original) on the home page of Olympus.co.uk.

Each site will have a theme. The theme for the C5050 Zoom site is 'painting by numbers', highlighting the camera's ease of use and the user's creative control over the pictures.

The online presence will complement an ad push running in the specialist press with the tagline 'be original', which will direct readers to the microsites.

A web drive targeting the photographic community is planned for later in the campaign.

Glen Collins, managing director of Digital Outlook, said: "The photographic industry needs to fully exploit the internet as an information platform.

"The Olympus target market is already web-savvy, so taking the 'be original' work online should elicit a strong response."

Digital Outlook's other clients include Island Records, Polydor and Buena Vista International.
