The strike action was called off today after Bectu, the union representing BBC Technology workers, took advice from its lawyers to consider the new deal being offered by the German electronics company.
Siemens has proposed a three-year guarantee of no changes in terms and conditions, improved pension benefits for staff retiring early or being made redundant after the age of 45, and a promise that no former BBC Technology staff would be redeployed within Siemens outside the city they are currently working in.
Industrial action planned for this weekend and, more crucially on August 13 and 14 during the Olympic opening ceremony, has been suspended while that ballot runs.
The second Bectu ballot is due to be announced on August 12.
