The £1bn project is a joint venture between real estate firm Delancey and data centre operator Infinity SDC. It will see part of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford turned into a new space aimed at the growing ‘maker movement’ – start-ups that are involved with 3D printing, robots, drones and other innovative hardware.

Based at the site of the former Press and Broadcast Centres, Here East will comprise three main buildings – a 300,000 square foot ‘innovation centre’, an auditorium with a capacity of 1,000 and another 850,000 square foot building for educational space, studios, offices and a data centre. The project is slated for completion early next year.

The site is already home to BT Sport. More than 40% of the space is pre-let to organisations including Loughborough University, Hackney Community College and Infinity SDC, according to Here East. A spokesman wouldn’t say which other firms or start-ups had signed up for space.

Here East’s promo video, conceived by POKE and directed by The Theory at Nexus, features a 4K drone shooting a hand-crafted robot which notes the rise of a "new breed of makers", with somewhat creepy overtones.

Here East CEO Gavin Poole said: "We wanted to showcase the scale of our ambition and the values that lie behind Here East.

"From concept to final cut, this film was inspired and created by the fantastic array of talent that exists in East London."
