Olympic legacy body set to come under wing of Mayor's office

The Olympic Park Legacy Company (OPLC) is set to be turned into a Mayoral Development Corporation, under new government plans.

The OPLC, which is in charge of finding a future use for the stadiums and infrastructure built to host the London 2012 Games, has been .

But rather than complete abolition, the OPLC is already preparing to reform and report to the Mayor’s office, instead of existing as it currently does as a quasi-autonomous, non-governmental organisation.

Plans had , but an OPLC spokesperson confirmed to Event that the changes are now expected and being prepared for, rather than simply mooted.

"There has been significant progress in discussions about the Olympic Park Legacy Company evolving into a Mayoral Development Corporation, which will give us greater powers to deliver a lasting legacy for east London. Plans are in place and work is already in hand to effect that transition," said an Olympic Park Legacy Company spokesperson.

The organisation has, in the past few days, asked for expressions of interest from companies looking to take over the Olympic Broadcast and Press Centre following the Games. It is frequently in the news .
