Britain’s richest media tycoons are still to be found in
traditional publishing despite the dotcom revolution, the latest Sunday
Times ’rich list’ reveals.
The list, which is published this Sunday, will reveal that Viscount
Cowdray and the Pearson family, the owners of the Pearson group, and
Viscount Rothermere, the chairman of the Daily Mail and General Trust,
take joint first place as the country’s richest media millionaires with
fortunes of pounds 1.3 billion. They tie at equal 12th in the overall
list.
Adult magazine publishers are prominent in the list of the top ten media
fortunes, with Paul Raymond, the publisher of Mayfair magazine, and
David Sullivan, the owner of the adult film and magazine empire
Roldvale, near the top.
Felix Dennis, the founder of one of Britain’s biggest independent
magazine publishers, Dennis Publishing, is in sixth place and Chris
Anderson, who holds a pounds 279 million stake in Future Network, comes
in at ninth place.
