OK! grew its readership by 9% from 2,304,000 to 2,507,000, while Hello! languished with a 11% drop from 2,208,000 to 1,963,000 in the latest NRS readership estimates for leading magazines, covering the six months from October 2005-March 2006.
Emap is strengthening its position in the celebrity gossip market as Heat and Closer each attracted 10% more readers.
Heat's readership was 2,066,000, up from 1,883,000 and Closer's was 1,317,000, up from 1,195,000.
IPC's Now was overtaken by Closer, dropping 7% from 1,259,000 to 1,176,000.
In the women's monthly market, NatMags' Cosmopolitan suffered an 11% drop from 1,915,000 to 1,699,000 but remained ahead of Conde Nast's Glamour, which climbed 8% from 1,142,000 to 1,236,000. IPC's Marie Claire was down 6% from 1,129,000 to 1,057,000.
The numbers spelled trouble for the home interest sector in particular, with double-digit declines for several titles. Worst affected were IPC's Ideal Home, down 24% from 1,050,000 to 796,000, and BBC Good Homes Magazine, down 37% from 646,000 to 407,000.
In the men's weekly market, IPC's Nuts continued to stretch out its lead over Emap's Zoo. Nuts was up 4% from 1,236,000 to 1,287,000 and Zoo was down 1% from 908,000 to 901,000.
Men's monthlies were in the doldrums with Dennis's troubled Maxim down 29% from 827,000 to 590,000, IPC's Loaded down 24% from 1,477,000 to 1,116,000, and Emap's FHM down 18% from 2,893,000 to 2,383,000.
