OK! awards recognise the difficult job of being a celeb

LONDON – There was once a time when people gained celebrity as a result of their achievements but a event sponsored by OK! is set to reward people simply for being famous.

Famous faces from TV, music and sport will attend the Celebrity Awards 2004 in London later this year. The one-off ceremony will be screened on ITV1.

The award categories include Celebrity Newcomer, Young Celebrity, Celebrity Mum, Funniest Celebrity, Sexiest Man and Woman and International Celebrity.

The deal negotiated by ITV sales and OK! will include sponsorship credits on ITV1, brand programming on ITV2 and a dedicated microsite. OK! will also host a party after the event.

Roland Agambar, the marketing director at OK!, said: "OK! is the number one celebrity magazine and associating with a programme of this calibre reinforces its position."

Leigh Alexander, the senior sponsorship executive at ITV Sales, said: "The Celebrity Awards will be a memorable occasion. The fit could not be better and we look forward to an excellent sponsorship."
