Sutherland will work with chairman Gary Leih, who unveiled the restructure last week. It will see all of Ogilvy's businesses, including direct marketing division OgilvyOne and design agency Coley Porter Bell, more closely aligned under the Ogilvy Group UK banner.
Joining Sutherland on the management board from OgilvyOne are joint managing directors Mike Dodds and Guy Lambert, along with Paul Jackson, who is chief executive of the advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather. All three will take the role of group business partners, jointly responsible for the running of OgilvyOne and O&M.
Two further group business partners drawn from other Ogilvy Group companies will be announced shortly.
Malcolm Poynton, executive creative director of O&M, and Cordell Burke, creative director of OgilvyOne, become group creative partners and will similarly be joined by two other senior creatives from within the group to be announced shortly.
"Rory is the original advocate of '360-degree branding', a persuasive and charismatic speaker and has a tremendous knack for making ideas come to life in an easily digestible way. He has been walking the walk longer than anyone. I look forward to working closely with him," Leih said.
The reorganisation also sees the creation of a new role, group client services director. It will revolve annually among senior account figures, with the first incumbent being Mike Welsford, regional chief of Ogilvy's global brand council.
