Before joining Ogilvy, Hellberg worked overseas for Lowe, Bates and BBDO, and for interactive agencies Modem Media and Lost Boys.
Rory Sutherland, OgilvyOne executive creative director and Ogilvy Group vice-chairman, said: "Perhaps just five years ago it would have been axiomatic that any group board would be dominated by traditional advertising account people with a couple of finance people thrown in to add colour."
"Bo's appointment to our group board recognises two things: it acknowledges that, in our new world, other disciplines, especially digital ones, need to stand centre stage. It also acknowledges the new primacy of creativity, in preparation for a time when only brands with big ideas will survive."
Ogilvy Group UK encompasses 11 companies including Ogilvy Interative, OgilvyOne, Ogilvy & Mather and brand design agency Coley Porter Bell.
It claims to be the UK's biggest single employer in the brand communications sector, with around 1,200 employees, 820 of them based at Canary Wharf.
Hellberg added: "I'm really pleased that this agency understands the importance of the digital realm, and to be able to take a place on the main 360 Board and to make the case for cutting-edge digital creativity alongside my fellow creatives working across other disciplines and channels."
