The ITV show, which has just been commissioned for a third series, is created by Manning Gottlieb OMD and follows police community support officers. Ofcom is investigating whether it broke rules demanding that relationships between sponsors and programmes are transparent and that the sponsor has no editorial control over the programme.
The politically sensitve nature both of Beat: Life on the Street and Sky One's upcoming series Border Police, which follows the work of immigration officers and is designed to reassure the public that the Home Office, has a grip on immigration has led to the shows coming under greater scrutiny than other government-funded series.
The latter includes Life Blood, which encouraged people to give blood.
