Ofcom announces new ITV licence review process

LONDON - Ofcom is planning to streamline the ITV licence review process with all of the 16 franchises beginning at the end of this year.

Under the previous plans, reviews for eight of the licences could have begun from December 31 2004 with the remaining eight delayed until 2007.

However Ofcom is proposing to price all Channel Three licences simultaneously and to make the review process more simple and transparent and reduce the regulatory burden upon broadcasters.

Ofcom proposes to complete the reviews by the end of June 2005.
