Octomom plans global brand domination

LONDON - An American woman dubbed "Octomom" by the media after giving birth to octuplets has applied to trademark the name, which she plans to exploit as a baby and mother brand.

In January, a tabloid frenzy erupted over a story that Californian and already mother of six, Nadya Suleman, who lived on welfare at her parents' house, had received IVF treatment and given birth to another eight babies.

Suleman has since embraced the limelight and is reportedly in talks with a number of production companies over various ideas for TV shows.

Talks are understood to be at an advanced stage with UK firm Eyeworks to produce a reality TV show.

Commenting on her trademark application, Suleman's lawyer, Jeff Czech, said in press reports: "She doesn't particularly care for the name, but thinks it's a good idea to protect it."

However, she may have a fight on her hands as a Texan videogame company is also understood to have applied to trademark "Octomom", which actually means eight-mother(s), rather than mother of eight children.

Suleman has appeared on a host of US TV shows, including 'NBC Dateline', 'Dr. Phil' and 'Oprah'.
