Ocado marketing chief quits ahead of UK expansion

Katie Spriggs, head of marketing for Waitrose's home shopping operation Ocado, has left the company and the marketing industry to live in France.

Her departure comes as Ocado prepares an aggressive expansion of the service to cover the whole of the M25 region, beyond its existing coverage of Hertfordshire and North West London.

The company said it has no plans to replace Spriggs. Instead, head of customer acquisition Clare Harper and head of customer relationship marketing Simon Powell will now report directly to managing director Nigel Robertson.

The company plans to roll out Ocado nationwide, compensating for Waitrose's lack of presence in Scotland and the North of England.

It is also gearing up to launch its biggest advertising to date with an autumn campaign through Heresy, and is moving its distribution facility from a depot in Hemel Hempstead to a 1.2 million square-foot centre in Hatfield.
