Observer launches Observer Woman as fourth monthly title

LONDON – The Observer is to launch a fourth monthly magazine, Observer Woman, when it converts to the Berliner format in the New Year.

The magazine will be produced by the team behind the Observer Food Monthly magazine, and edited by Nicola Jeal, the OFM editor and Observer assistant editor. Jeal is also a former editor of Elle and was contributing editor for Grazia's launch.

The checklist of topics includes sex, relationships, style, shopping, health and beauty.

However, according to Jeal, the intention of Observer Woman is not to exclude men, but to offer wide-ranging features and articles that will interest everyone.

"I believe that people want challenging writing and the magazine will include contributions from The Observer's award-winning columnists and correspondents," she said.

Stuart Taylor, commercial director of Guardian Newspapers, said: "This new high-quality product will bring us access to new markets, attracting new readers and more premium advertising to the well-established and highly acclaimed Observer brand."

The launch will be backed by a heavyweight ad campaign and a major marketing push.
