O2 cashes in on text success by adding 'Bolt Ons'

O2 is aiming to capitalise on its strength in text messaging with a tailor-made tariff called 'Bolt On', supported by a £4m ad campaign.

The mobile network will add a number of text message 'Bolt Ons' for both Pay & Go and contract customers. The initiative comes on the back of research revealing that by far the most popular optional extras customers wanted was more text messages.

Contract customers choose from a variety of bundles, from 50 texts for £3 a month to 400 texts for £16 a month. Pre-pay customers will also be allowed to bolt on 25 or 50 picture messages, but it has yet to announce the extra cost of these. O2 is the first network to provide optional extras to its pre-pay customers.

Advertising for 'Bolt Ons', breaking today (Wednesday), will feature images of shiny metal tightened by bolts set against a blue background with O2's strapline 'See what you can do'. It is created by Vallance Carruthers Coleman Priest.

O2 claims it handled 387 million messages through its network during June, more than any other mobile brand.
