Playboy magazine is being threatened with legal action by the
publisher of Tomb Raider over the latest issue of the magazine, which
boasts ’Lara Croft’ naked.
July’s Playboy, already out in the US and set to hit the UK any day,
features a cover picture of Nell McAndrew, the former official Lara
Croft lookalike, with the words: ’Tomb Raider Nell McAndrew, AKA Lara
Croft, Nude.’ Inside, a nude pictorial of McAndrew, has the line: ’Nell
took on the role of Lara and now she takes it off.’
Tomb Raider’s publisher, Eidos, and developer, Core Design, asked
Playboy not to publish the pictures.
Susie Hamilton, marketing executive at Core Design, said: ’We will be
taking action against Playboy. We’re concerned that they are going
against our wishes not to run with the piece.
’We want to protect Lara and prevent anyone from damaging the brand.
However, we have not yet finalised our course of action.’
McAndrew, whose contract ended in April, will be replaced by Lara
Weller, a 24-year-old lingerie model.
