NSPCC hires chief as controversial TV campaign airs

The NSPCC has hired former Barnardo's marketing chief John Grounds

to be its top marketer. The appointment comes as the charity prepares to

launch a high-impact advertising campaign urging the public to report

the first sign of child abuse.

Grounds takes up the role of director of marketing and communications,

filling a post left vacant by Trish Evans, who left last year for

Wellcome Trust. Grounds was most recently communications director at

medical charity Action Research.

The £2m Saatchi & Saatchi campaign, which breaks on TV this Friday

(March 1), depicts a cartoon child being beaten up his father, played by

a human actor.

The TV spot closes with the cartoon character lying wounded on the floor

morphing into a real child, with the endline 'Real Children Don't Bounce

Back'. Media is by Zenith.

launches a weekly title for charity professionals called Third Sector on

March 13.
