The National Readership Surveys has given in to pressure from the
Newspaper Publishers Association to add 15 newspaper sections to the
survey, ending the long-running dispute between the two
organisations.
The three members of the NRS - the Periodical Publishers Association,
the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising and the Newspaper
Publishers Association - have all agreed to the extra newspaper
sections.
But discussions are continuing over the number of magazines that should
be included in the survey. This was one of the main bones of contention
when the trade bodies first met last year, with the NPA adamant that no
more than 50 magazines should be surveyed. Revisions to the NRS were
originally scheduled to be agreed by June last year.
The new sections included will be the Evening Standard’s entertainment
magazine, Hot Tickets, The Guardian’s Guide and The Information from The
Independent. In the Saturday newspaper market, The Daily Telegraph’s
Money Go Round, The Financial Time’s FT Money, The Independent’s Your
Money and The Guardian’s Jobs & Money have been added.
In the Sunday market the NRS will include sectional research on Sunday
Express’s Smart Money, The Mail on Sunday’s Financial Mail, The
Observer’s business and cash sections and the business sections from The
Independent on Sunday and The Sunday Telegraph, as well as the Sunday
Times’ Business and Money sections.
