Norton joined the BBC from Channel 4 in a £3m golden handcuffs deal two years ago, but has failed to reach the critical acclaim he received for 'So Graham Norton', his risque chatshow at the commercial channel.
According to The Sun, a source close to the Irish actor, comic and presenter said that he "knows that his time at the BBC has not exactly been a success", and that he had already held talks with Channel 4 bosses about a possible return.
But a spokeswoman for the BBC said: "There is absolutely no truth in that. He is very much part of our plans."
She added that current and future roles include presenting on the second series of 'Strictly Dance Fever' and hosting a forthcoming reality talent show to find a singer to play the central character in 'The Sound of Music', called 'How Do You Solve a Problem like Maria'.
She would not comment on whether Norton and the BBC had opened contract talks for work beyond December, adding "we have a policy never to discuss contracts".
Since joining the BBC, Norton did not produce any shows for around a year despite being linked to a number of primetime roles including fronting a revamped 'Generation Game', details of which have so far failed to materialise.
Channel 4 declined to comment, but according to The Sun the channel is keen to work with Norton again, but on specials rather than on a golden-handcuffs basis.
