Eve Pollard, the former magazine and national newspaper editor, is
to return to magazine publishing as editor-in-chief of the monthly
women’s magazine, Chic.
Pollard will oversee a review of the magazine’s editorial and a new
investment drive behind the title, including increased funds for
marketing the magazine.
Chic, owned by Northern & Shell, recently returned to a monthly sale
after going bi-monthly while N&S focused on boosting its weekly women’s
magazine, OK.
According to Stan Myerson, N&S’s joint managing director, attention is
being turned to boosting Chic’s sales.
The magazine is aimed at upmarket women over the age of 40 and currently
sells around 60,000 copies. ’We aim to become a serious player in the
market,’ Myerson said. ’We want to reach the 85,000 or 90,000 mark.’
Pollard, a former editor of the Sunday Express and Sunday Mirror and the
launch editor of Elle in the US, said: ’This group of women is
demographically the fastest growing and culturally the most
exciting.
Yet virtually no existing magazines seem to cater for them.’ She added
her aim was make Chic ’an indispensable read’.
