The unit, to be called Northcliffe Digital, will be made up of fifteen dedicated digital publishers working along with sales, support staff, and web analysts.

The creation of the unit is unlikely to lead to significant job losses, though Nortcliffe Media declined to comment on whether jobs would be axed as part of the restructure.

The unit will bring together 21 of the publisher's key regional news sites, such as thisishull and thisisderbyshire.

Previously publishers worked across both the newspaper and digital brands but there will now be dedicated staff for the digital offshoots.

As part of the changes, Mike Rowley, currently digital director, will become managing director of Nortcliffe Digital.

Rowley will report to Michael Pelosi, managing director of Northcliffe Media, the regional division of parent group, Daily Mail & General Trust.

Robert Hardie, currently content strategy director, will become publishing director of the new unit.

A new design template for the sites will go live in the next few months.
