No sponsors found for UK Music Week

UK Music Week, billed as the largest commercial radio initiative since UK Radio Aid, has failed to find a sponsor.

The organisers have however signed up leading artists including James Blunt and the Sugababes to record special sessions to air across the UK network during the week of April 24 to May 1.
Although the week is regionally focused, showcasing local artistes and music events, the exclusive network contributions of Blunt, the Sugababes, Craig David, Richard Ashcroft, Tom Jones, Embrace, Suggs and others will help promote the event nationally.
Without sponsorship, incremental revenues around the event will be limited to texting and other non-radio sources.
However, UK Music Week sources insisted that that the event was always envisage as a "not-for-profit project" and was intended to help counter the BBC's audience growth, and to demonstrate to advertisers the power of commercial radio in network programming and within local communities.
More than 270 stations across the UK are promoting UK Music Week and asking listeners to vote for their favourite UK artist via a website, , or to text their response.
A resulting chart show of the top 40 artistes, featuring live performances, artist profiles and guest presenters, will air in a four-hour show on the 1 May Bank Holiday Monday.
